Amsterdam Part 3- 50 Hygiëaplein, Amsterdam

This stage is the last stage in Holland for them as of now… They lived here for almost 5 years. These years I was in Los Angeles really starting my family, getting married, and on my way to my second child…my special little guy DJ. During this time Maron painted a lot and did some incredible work. I will share with you a series that is so beautiful, it is a true favorite phase in his art…

The Guardian –

My father always paints what he sees…sometimes it can be just something that is there and catches his eye or he may set up a whole montage. This piece “The Guardian” is one of those accidental moments that were just there…I recall seeing when I visited them how he kept his paintings in the studio stacked like this leaning against the wall with a nice sheet over them for protection.

The Autumn Leaves –

Such beauties these are. A picture can only show so much!

Lee’s Bouquet –

This one was for my lovely cousin Lee who I love dearly. She fell in love with it and had to have it. Through the years she has acquired some beautiful pieces for her collection of his work.

Oh my…honestly! Beautiful, color, dimension and just every sense it envelops you into…

Here the Master at work…

Painting…Love the black & white

There it is…Marvelous                                                                                – Flowers on Flowers

This is the one for me…this is one is for me simply incredible and I love it.

Painting mama’s vase…still has this vase and yes it is a beauty

Here he is painting the book and this one as well is amazing in person…(well they all are)

Isn’t she awe inspiring? I have that vase now, so lovely.

Truly enjoy this one…Quite genius                                                 – Dream – The Painters Raft

Inspired by Canaletto - The 2 together look amazing on a wall ;)

Dream…Night at the Opera

Yep! That’s where it is…

WOW! I mean honestly…special piece, very special

We end the post this time with a special painting, this is sea salt from Cadiz. When he went to visit my uncle Manolo in Spain he got this salt from Cadiz which is a very special salt. When you go to a restaurant this is how they bring your salt to the table. My father also recalls this is the type of salt that Abuelo (my Grandpa) would use to cook with, pescado frito etc…

Guys this is a joy to share with you and there is more to come, thank you for continuing with me and please feel free to check him out on these links:

Amsterdam – Part 2 – Jakob Obrecht Straat

We continue on the Amsterdam chapter where Maron paints majestic pieces inspired by a cultural surrounding that is Amsterdam. Now they are living in Obrecht Straat in a beautiful place in the Gold Coast which is an great area in Amsterdam. I will show you his progression…

Painting flowers for my mother’s 60th birthday…beautiful piece just like her :)

There it is! so enchanting…you can see her can’t you? A picture of her taken in 1960…you can read his dedication on a note…my goodness this one is so good! I want it for me!

Here painting a still life which was commissioned and it’s Protagonist was Saint Aloysius…he  did not make an entrance yet but just wait…

I really like his extension, I know the way he holds his brush and the way his crooked pinky that he broke when young is ever so perfect for the task…my dad!

Ok ok let’s get back to it

Wow!

Right!… so gorgeous.

First of all, this stirs so many different things in me alone that I am not even sure which to address first…This like all their dwellings looks so comfortable to me, just so…them (us) and inspiring. I am sure they enjoyed those windows. I know they crave just this, a space for them to just create.

You can see the church is right outside his window. This painting is a master piece!

Obrecht Church. I recall seeing this place when I went for a walk with mom when visiting. So amazing and beautiful inside. The detail is just impeccable…

view from another side…look at this place! what I would give to find this kind of place here, ha!

Lovely interior of the opposite side…

Willy…

Oh this one! again, so good! note the light switch that I have used and still have, Do you see a young Maron boy in his favorite place…a small lagoon sized perfectly just for him. Willy sprinkled here and there…so cool.

The backyard at Obrecht…so beautiful!

Gorgeous portrait of Paxti

Self portrait…

Willy in Obrecht…love this one.

Yes, the nude…breathtaking isn’t it?

6. interior Amstel dijk

Amsterdam – Part 1- Amstel Dijk

Amsterdam! what an amazing city…Europe in general is a place that you can easily romanticize over. The history, the beauty, the food! OK well let’s get back to Amsterdam, my mother’s homeland. Now they live here and they find amazing places to stay and work, again Amsterdam is a hard place to find a home in as it is very strictly organized to keep housing assigned to the Dutch as it is so small and so many want to live there. I show you now the Amsteldijk studio which is the first of some amazing studios they stayed in thanks to a friend Max Hasfeld who had properties for sale but would rent out to these 2 amazing artists until they would sell. It worked for everyone very well! Because they were such extraordinary places! I will show you here…

Here you can see the studio from both sides

this is such a beautiful piece…

The lucky one who acquires this one will be able to see how marvelous it is :)

Here he is starting the interior of their place, the interiors he paints are so beautiful!

Gorgeous! this is the finished work…I love that it shows the beaded curtain I made along with my then partner Mykeesha, do you see it?

Ah! this place was so incredible…it had 4 floors and they put their personal touch to it which I am sure was so cozy and beautifully detailed with rugs, blankets, nice tables and everything in between.

The Master at work!

Wow this is so lovely…

the Master contemplation the next move…

OMG this one is incredible!                                                                                          -The cord

starting a painting

Like we would say in Spain, En Su Salsa!

Look at this beauty! here is the view of the Amstel river.

Wowza!!! finished                                                                                          -View of the Amstel

Here is the view from the 4th floor. As you can see there were not many places that even went that high so this was a wonderful studio for him to work from.

7. Blue Hortensias-90x80 cm

Canary Islands to Amsterdam – New chapter in Sloten

I am now going to take you to the time span in which my parents moved from Canary Islands to Amsterdam. In essence from one homeland to the other and quite extreme in difference! They moved there in the middle of a heavy winter so it was a cold shock to him and I am sure it was because I remember visiting for the first time and when I got off the plane it was like I never knew what cold was before! My mother is dutch and so  this was very familiar to her. My father enjoyed very much being there as it is so rich in art culture. The museums and Dutch Masters impressed him very much. They first stayed with a friend Reine for a bit which was very nice; then they rented a place of a friend who was not there for about 6 months when they found another place in Sloten. This place was right in front of the river and it was very nice; I went to this place when I first visited them and took my then 1 year old daughter Alijah…it was so serene and nice to be there (of course anywhere with my parents is serene and nice ;)). They stayed there for another 6 months, in Amsterdam it is not easy to find a place that is permanent as they have a system in place for housing that can be time consuming and hard to get into. I want to show you some of the beauties he did there.

this he painted while staying with their friend Reineke

a painting of my mother

Here he is painting an interior of one of the beautiful places they stayed in Amsterdam

Finished interior

This painting of the Hortensias is so beautiful! I love it so much…the picture really does it no justice at all, so rich in color and vibrancy!

Birthday flowers for my mother as he always does for her :)

I actually have the top left one of the Japanese Garden in my room and I love it so much!

Here is one from the house they had by the river. This is the place where I visited with my then baby girl and it was lovely! You could walk out to the back patio and the river would be right there with plenty of ducks to feed.

This is a gorgeous still life; Catalog of Rijks Museum, with Adriaen Coorte on the cover.

Last but definitely not least a painting with a picture of my then baby Alijah, my music box and Maron’s reflection…This is mine as well and hangs in my living room…beautiful!

There is much more to tell my dear friends but I will keep it for the next chapter; until then be sure to check in with what is happening with my mother’s blog HERE!

LOVE & PEACE
